About the film
Things, a documentary by FAMU´s Marta Hrubá, is a light, witty, poetical essay about the human dilemma between accumulating and disposing of things.
The film´s two main characters are Mrs Voldřichová and Mrs Denská, elegant elderly ladies.
Both ladies live in their houses. While one clutters her rooms with old things attractive in their histories and old-time charms, the other systematically gets rid of everything that reminds her of the past.
Mrs Voldřichová has made her passion her living, too – she collects things, sorts them and tries to put them back into use. In spite of their age, her things live on as long as they are used.
Mrs Denská likes her place clean and tidy, she enjoys free space and distinguishes between things useless and still useful. The things she keeps are really valuable for her.
Director Marta Hrubá unveils the theme of collecting things and disposing of them, offering the viewer enough space for his thouhgts...
The combination of Jan Baset Střítežský´s sensitive and inspiring camerawork and Pierre Bastien´s simple but suggestive music forces the viewer – on returning home – to take a fresh new look at their rooms and at things both lying around and existing in memories only.
